During the Pandemic Peter Hristoff starting looking for inspiration from his surrounding and started to appreciate what his garden would provide him. These drawings became a daily meditaiton on simplicity, beauty and a vehicle to explore his state of mind for the day.

Peter Hristoff (b.1958, Istanbul, Turkey) is a visual artist working in painting, printmaking, rug making and works on paper. Hristoff received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York (full scholarship;1981) and his MFA from Hunter College, City University of New York (1983). He is the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Award in Painting, The New York Foundation for the Arts Award in Drawing and the Moon and Stars Project Grant; in 2015-16 Hristoff was the first visual artist to be awarded an 18 month residency at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Exhibiting in NY since the early 1980’s and in Istanbul since 1997, his work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections such as American Express, Yapi Kredi Kultur Sanat, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Moscow Museum of Modern Art, SVA NYC, Residency Unlimited and MoMA.Over the years Hristoff’s work has focused on identity, current events, spirituality and sexual politics. Allegory, symbolism and references to art history—particularly Classical Antiquity and Ottoman Art—are used by the artist. In addition to his studio practice, Hristoff has, for the past 20 years, organized theatrical drawing events with multiple models that seamlessly blend performance and teaching.
